Our House
Dar Zmen is an ancient troglodyte house in Toujane. According to stories passed down by the villagers, its history dates back more than three centuries. It is one of the old troglodyte houses that bear witness to the traditional way of life of Toujane.
Long before modern buildings appeared, the people of the village lived in houses carved into the mountain. These homes were an integral part of village life and its heritage.
Originally, Dar Zmen consisted of two troglodyte houses: one made up of three caves and another of two caves. These particularly large caves are among the largest found in the old troglodyte houses of Toujane.
The two houses were brought together to create a larger and more harmonious home, while preserving their original character and architecture.
The house was restored with great care to preserve its authenticity. New spaces were also added to welcome guests comfortably, including bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining room and other areas needed for everyday life.
These additions were designed in keeping with the traditional architecture of Toujane, using materials such as stone, white cement and lime, while maintaining harmony with the mountains, the landscape and the village buildings.
Today, the troglodyte houses of Toujane are attracting renewed interest from visitors looking for authentic accommodation and a different kind of travel experience.
Carved into the mountain, the caves naturally offer good thermal properties: they remain pleasantly cool in summer and retain more warmth in winter.
